Ceremony to be on Oct. 24, One Day Prior to Rogers’ Nashville Farewell Concert Celebration
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – GRAMMY-winner and music icon Kenny Rogers will be inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m., the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp announced today. The induction ceremony will take place one day in advance of the all-star “All In For The Gambler: Kenny Rogers’ Farewell Concert Celebration” taking place at Bridgestone Arena.
“Kenny Rogers is one of the best storytellers in country music history, with one of the sweetest and most soulful voices,” Mayor Megan Barry said. “I’m so glad he’ll be able to join all the other amazing artists on the Music City Walk of Fame before he retires after nearly 60 years of making beautiful music.”
Rogers will receive the 80th star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Inductees are recognized for their significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and for contributing to the world through song or other industry collaboration.
Rogers has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, topped the charts for nearly six decades, famously been a duet partner with Dolly Parton, is a New York Times best-selling author, appeared in movies and participated in the historical USA For Africa recording of “We Are The World,” the multi-celebrity performance that raised millions of dollars for famine relief in Africa.
The farewell celebration on Oct. 25 will feature the final live performance together by Rogers and Parton, and other guests will include The Flaming Lips, Jamey Johnson, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Idina Menzel, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton and Wynonna Judd.
In Rogers’ nearly six decades on the charts, the Country Music Hall of Fame member and pop superstar has notched chart-topping songs, including “The Gambler,” “Lady,” “Islands In The Stream,” “Lucille,” “Coward of the County,” “She Believes In Me,” “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town,” “We've Got Tonight,” “Daytime Friends,” “Through The Years,” “Love Will Turn You Around,” “You Decorated My Life,” “Crazy,” “Every Time Two Fools Collide” and “Buy Me A Rose.”
Rogers has charted a record within each of the last seven decades (’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, 2010s), while sending 24 songs to the No. 1 spot of the charts. With more than 120 million albums sold worldwide, he is one of the Top Ten Best Selling Male Solo Artists of All Time, according to the RIAA. Rogers has won many awards for his music, including three GRAMMY Awards, 19 American Music Awards, 11 People’s Choice Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards, six Country Music Association Awards (including the CMA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013) and the Artist of a Lifetime Award at the CMT Artists of the Year 2015 award show.
The Music City Walk of Fame was created in 2006 on Nashville’s Music Mile, a roughly one-mile stretch that connects downtown to Music Row. Permanent sidewalk medallions with the names of the inductees are displayed in a star-and-guitar design.
The Music City Walk of Fame is an official project of Music City, Inc., the charitable foundation of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, and is produced with the support of founding sponsor Gibson Brands and sponsors the City of Nashville and Metro Parks and Recreation. Nominations are open to the public and are accepted in the categories of Artist, Musician, Songwriter, and Producer/Music Industry Executive. Application forms are reviewed by the Music City Walk of Fame anonymous selection committee. For more information about the Music City Walk of Fame, go to visitmusiccity.com/walkoffame.
AVAILABLE NOW: COUNTRY REWIND RECORDS RELEASE TIMELESS, A COLLECTION OF
CONWAY TWITTY HITS AND HIDDEN RECORDINGS
|NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fans of the late Country Music Hall of Fame member, Conway Twitty, can now purchase TIMELESS, a collection of never-before released songs from one of America's most beloved musical performers of all-time.The album is available on ConwayTwitty.comand can be downloaded through all major digital retail outlets.|
The songs on TIMELESS haven't been heard since their recording in 1972, included in a series of musical tracks from top artists at the time as part of a United States recruitment program. Performers such as Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Waylon Jennings would record fifteen-minute performances that would be distributed to over 2,000 radio stations throughout the world intended for commercial release. Tom Gramuglia of Country Rewind Records, says that he can’t wait for fans to hear these recordings - which put the recorded genius of Conway Twitty on full display for all to hear.
“These recordings were long forgotten and few people who knew of their existence. They’ve never before been made commercially available to the public and I truly felt like this music needed to be shared with long-time traditional fans, and heard by our younger generation of Millennials who have a flavor and inkling for country music recording artists that made American country music great.”
The music on TIMELESS is a mixture of many of the songs that made Conway Twitty a household name, such as his signature song from 1970, “Hello Darlin,” as well as a pair of deeper Twitty cuts that are no less historic or powerful - “The Image Of Me” and “Next In Line” (his first top ten and number one hits, respectively) from 1968. His band, the Twitty Birds - featuring steel guitar wizard John “Buttermilk” Hughey, bassist “Big Joe” Lewis, and drummer Tommy “Pork Chop” Markham - are featured on TIMELESS, as well as new musical accompaniment produced by Twitty’s daughter and son-in-law, Joni and John Wesley Ryles. Joni - who performed with her father on the 1975 classic “Don’t Cry Joni” - says this music is something that Twitty’s loyal following will want to add to their collection.
“When I heard it, I was blown away. I couldn't be prouder of Dad's performance, and the Twitty Birds did such a great job. Every Conway Twitty fan needs to hear this. My family could not be more pleased to celebrate his life in music with this compilation of treasures.”
While the sessions that comprise TIMELESS weren’t the typical Decca recording session with Owen Bradley producing, these tracks - cut at the studio of former Elvis Presley band member Scotty Moore - drip with as much perfection as anything he cut at Bradley’s Barn. It wasn't like a typical session where everything was perfected,” explained Ryles. “But, these songs are an incredible gift, and Daddy was sounding as incredible as he ever did. These recordings make my heart smile, and I think his fans will feel the same way.”

The One America Appeal was launched September 7th when all five living former presidents aired a joint PSA on the NFL’s regular season opening broadcast and launched a website accepting tax-deductible donations at OneAmericaAppeal.org.
Originally, the former presidents were inspired to come together in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which unleashed devastating flooding that threatened hundreds of thousands of Texans — and spurred thousands of first responders and neighbors into action. The effort has since expanded twice to include recovery efforts in Florida from Hurricane Irma, and in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands from Hurricane Maria.
A special restricted account has been established through the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation to collect and distribute donations to every dollar given goes to assist hurricane victims. Donations will be distributed to:
- Houston Harvey Relief Fund, focusing on the greater Houston region
- Rebuild Texas Fund, assisting hurricane-ravaged communities across the state
- Florida Disaster Fund
- Juntos y Unidos Por Puerto Rico, launched by First Lady Beatriz Rossello and a private sector coalition
- The Fund for the Virgin Islands
“Thanks to our very generous underwriters, we can once again state that every dollar we raise through ticket sales for our 'Deep From the Heart' show will go to our designated hurricane recovery funds,” said David Jones, CEO of the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation. “So grab your friends and join us at Reed Arena on October 21st for what promises to be a truly unforgettable night – that also helps a lot of Americans."
