"GET YOUR GAME FACE ON" TO FIGHT ALZHEIMERS Vols partner with DISH, Pat
Summitt Foundation, enlists Dolly Parton
KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee Athletics Department, in partnership with longtime sponsor DISH, The Pat Summitt Foundation and IMG College-Vol Network, has developed a first-of-its kind community initiative calling on Vol fans to “Get Your Game Face On!”
Designed to bring awareness to the ongoing fight against Alzheimer’s, this “Game Face” fundraiser began at the Vols’ SEC opener against the Florida Gators on Sept. 24. DISH will provide all 102,455 fans in attendance with custom eye-black stickers featuring the iconic Pat Summitt signature “P” and the branded “Tennessee” wordmark.
“Vol Nation, it’s time to get your game face on against the Gators, and get your game face on against Alzheimer’s,” said Chris Fuller, Tennessee Senior Associate Athletics Director. “This year, we experienced a tragedy in the passing of Tennessee’s own legend, coach Pat Summitt. Our friends at DISH approached us this summer with a goal to meaningfully impact The Pat Summitt Foundation by uniting our fans in the ongoing battle against Alzheimer’s. We hope to see every single Vol fan at the Florida game wear these eye blacks to show their support.”
In appreciation of Neyland Stadium attendees rallying behind Alzheimer’s awareness, DISH will present a check for $102,455 to The Pat Summitt Foundation during a second quarter break next Saturday.
DISH’s gameday donation kicks off fundraising efforts that involve the entire Vol Nation community throughout Tennessee. Beginning next week through the remainder of the football season, or while supplies last, fans can purchase “Get Your Game Face On!” eye-black stickers at a number of retailers across the state, including Alumni Hall, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, HoundDogs, Pilot Food Marts, Sports Seasons and Vol Shop. The eye blacks cost $3.99, with $2 of every purchase going directly to The Pat Summitt Foundation.
DISH’s donation, and all funds raised through “Get Your Game Face On!” eye-black sticker sales, will go toward the development of The Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s Clinic, scheduled to open in December. The Pat Summitt Foundation is creating this clinic in partnership with The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
“We are grateful to DISH and all Vol fans for supporting Pat’s mission of Alzheimer’s awareness, advocacy and research for a cure,” said Patrick Wade, Executive Director of The Pat Summitt Foundation. “If you’re not attending the Florida game at Neyland, we hope you’ll buy our eye blacks ahead of the game to show us that you back Pat. Get your ‘Game Face’ on at tailgate parties, local pubs and from your living rooms by sharing photos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the hashtags #VolsGameFace and #DISHCares.”

Brian Wilson brings "Good Vibrations" to the Ryman Auditorium on
Saturday night By Johnathan Pushkar
Brian Wilson, formerly of the Beach Boys, fulfilled a two-night residency at the Ryman Auditorium " which concluded on Saturday night..
Wilson and his band performed numerous Beach Boys classics along with the legendary album "Pet Sounds in its entirety.
The band opened with a beautiful, crowd-endearing rendition of "California Girls," after which the audience roared with applause.
Brian's verbal antics had the audience laughing in admiration of the songwriting legend and founding Beach Boy. He continually spoke to the audience, introducing each song with charisma.
"Ladies and gentleman, please be seated!" was perhaps Wilson's favorite catchphrase of the evening. He received several standing ovations after several songs' completion, but Wilson was there to perform, not to be applauded.
Before the song "Salt Lake City," Al Jardine, fellow founding Beach Boy, shared that he and Brian had written the song about a fair they used to play in their youth, but Brian was quick to correct Al in saying, "Here's a song that I wrote!" as Wilson kept into the intro of the song.
Jardine's son, Matt Jardine, came forward early in the show's first set to deliver a hauling rendition of "Don't Worry Baby," channeling the falsetto voicing of the original 1964 record. He was met with a standing ovation and screaming applause for his resurrection of one of the most beloved Beach Boys' songs of the "surf" era.
Blondie Chapin, former Beach Boys and Rolling Stones collaborator in his own right, joined the band for "Sail Away, "Wild Honey," and "Sail On Sailor," delivering two memorable (but loud) guitar solos in the later two songs.
After an intermission, the band returned and delivered what was promised: a performance of the classic 1966 album, "Pet Sounds," in its entirety, 50 years later.
The band performed "Pet Sounds" in its original sequential order, with Brian at the helm for vocals.
"Wouldn't It Be Nice" kicked off a crowd sing along, with Matt Jardine's beautiful falsetto carrying the song.
As the second half of the show progressed, Wilson spoke (and occasionally shouted) his vocals more than singing, which the audience had mixed reactions to.
For those unfamiliar with Wilson, he has suffered under intense mental illness for the better part of his life, and at the age of 74, one can hear the liveliness in his speaking voice, but the taxation on his singing voice. His hunger to perform outweighs his handicaps, and the passion and soulfulness in his deliveries make for a memorable experience for all in attendance.
In seeing Wilson, it's not about the performance, it's about the experience.
Still, Wilson's band has mastered the art of capturing the magic of the original Beach a boys records and reproducing the sounds of the surf rock era in a way that transports you out of your seat and onto the Santa Monica Pier, 50 years ago.
After the completion of the "Pet Sounds" portion, the band exited the stage, and returned for an encore, where they shifted it into gear with Beach Boys classics like "Surfin' U.S.A.," "Help Me, Rhonda," "Fun, Fun, Fun," and "Barbara Ann"
The evening came to a close with a sweet, tender rendition of Brian's spiritual song, "Love and Mercy."
Brian Wilson and his band had the crowd singing and dancing all night, and the audience could not get enough of their performance.
If one thing is for certain, the 60's were alive and well at the Ryman on Saturday night, and we have Wilson, Jardine, and the rest of the band to thank.

PAULETTE CARLSON CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY AS THE VOICE OF HIGHWAY 101
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 8, 2016) – It’s been exactly 30 years since Paulette Carlson formed the ground-breaking country group, Highway 101. After collecting four total ACM and CMA awards for “Vocal Group of the Year,” along with multiple Grammy nominations, Highway 101 led the field in the late 80’s and early 90’s, fueled by Carlson’s distinctive vocals, which would lead the group to 10 Top Ten hits.
“Wow, it’s such a wonderful feeling looking back and remembering all the great times we had,” says Carlson. “I remember at the time, I had such a certain feeling that this was really going to be a successful endeavor. And of course working with Warner Brothers, Chuck Morris and Paul Worley, how could it not be? Hats off to my fellow cohorts in Highway 101… didn’t we have fun!”
After forming in 1986, Highway 101 would go on to release their debut single, the Paulette Carlson-penned anthem, “The Bed You Made for Me.” The song burst onto the country charts, establishing Highway 101 as the premiere vocal group in the genre. From that point, Highway 101 would go on to release hit-after-hit, with timeless tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry and “Somewhere Tonight.” After spending five years with the band and leading them to multiple Grammy nominations, Carlson moved on from the group.
Paulette Carlson continues to make music today. The heartfelt vocalist has shifted her efforts to raise attention to issues near and dear to the award-winning singer’s heart. Her song, “Thank You Vets” was created to honor military servicemen and women. The song was specifically dedicated to Carlson’s brother Gary, who served in the 82nd Airborne and 173rd Division in Vietnam as a paramedic. The track was featured on Carlson’s album, It’s About Time. The country chart-topper continues to make music that will remind fans of the voice that they fell in love with exactly 30 years, with many surprises in store as Carlson begins the next chapter of her career.

The Isaacs Announce Release of Nature’s Symphony in 432
Hendersonville, TN (September 2nd, 2016) – Esteemed Gospel family-group, The Isaacs, are pleased to present the latest contribution to a vast catalog of acclaimed music, entitledNature’s Symphony in 432: A Journey From Pain To Praise.
Nature’s Symphony in 432 has been a labor of love for the musical family, comprised of siblings Sonya, Ben and Becky, and their mother Lily. Born out of a season of pain and struggle, each song is a personal testimony that speaks to the faithfulness of God and offers praise and rejoicing to the Lord through the trials of life. After much research and prayer, the group chose to record the project in 432 tuning, the frequency which most closely reflects the sounds found in nature, further setting this 15-song collection apart from other recorded albums.
Fans of the Isaacs know that the award-winning group cannot be confined to one musical genre; a fact that is well reflected in this new release. From the triumphant rejoicing found in ‘This Is The Year’ and the country-driven feel of ‘Keep Breathing,’ to the heart-felt ballads of ‘I Love You More,’ and ‘If That’s What It Takes,’ and worshipful praise of ‘Lord Of My Heart,’ each song reflects a different angle of the project’s subtitle, A Journey From Pain To Praise, all while singing the praises of a sovereign and faithful God and staying true to the beautiful and intricate harmonies that are unmistakably the Isaacs.
The first single from Nature’s Symphony in 432, entitled ‘This Is The Year,’ is at Southern Gospel radio now. The project is available to the Christian marketplace exclusively through New Day Christian. Mainstream and digital distribution are provided by Sony RED.
The Isaacs are a multi-award winning family group based out of Hendersonville, TN. Drawing from bluegrass, country, contemporary Christian and southern gospel influences, infused with their signature acoustic instrumentation, the Isaacs’ unique sound and blended harmonies appeal to a wide range of audiences and has earned them notoriety in a variety of genres. They have been featured artists on the Gaither Homecomings, as well as appearing on stages such as the Grand Ole Opry, Dove Awards, IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Awards, ICMA (Inspirational Country Music Association) Awards, CMA Music Week, Carnegie Hall and professional sporting events across the country.

WHISPERIN' BILL ANDERSON: AN UNPRECEDENTED LIFE IN COUNTRY MUSIC
One-hour Special Airs on SiriusXM Willie's Roadhouse, Channel 59 Labor Day Weekend
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 1, 2016) – Songwriting icon and legendary performer “Whisperin’ Bill” Anderson pens the lyrics to his life in a new revealing autobiography available today. As part of Anderson’s media blitz to promote Whisperin’ Bill Anderson: An Unprecedented Life In Country Music, Willie’s Roadhouse on SiriusXM will broadcast a one-hour special conversation with his old friend Charlie Monk, “The Mayor of Music Row,” for a live audience of SiriusXM subscribers recorded the SiriusXM Music City Theatre in Nashville. The show will air on Channel 59 on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm ET, Sunday, September 4 at 10:00 am and 8:00 pm ET, and Monday September 5 at 11:00 am ET and 11:00 pm ET.
Whisperin’ Bill Anderson: An Unprecedented Life In Country Music is a 360-page representation of Anderson’s journey published by University of Georgia Press featuring respected music journalist and Grammy-nominated music producer Peter Cooper as a contributing writer. It includes rare, never-before-seen photos and eye-opening personal stories from Anderson’s nearly eighty years of living – from early days of radio broadcasting in Georgia, to standing alongside the greatest country music stars in the world onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, to being named BMI’s first ICON Award winner in the country music genre.
“I sometimes look in the mirror and wonder how one man could have been so blessed to have crammed so much living into one lifetime. I see the gray on my temples and instead of trying to hide it, I remember how much fun I had putting it there. Writing it down for these pages was almost akin to living it again, though, and I probably need to take a deep breath, relax and go sit down in the corner. Come sit with me, bring the book, and let me tell you about it,” said Anderson.
With the 2015 success of Mo Pitney’s “Country,” Anderson has become the only country songwriter to tally a Top 40 hit in seven consecutive decades, and he stands today a legendary performer, who recently celebrated his 55th Anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The youngest writer to ever be named “Songwriter Of The Year” (BMI) at age 23, prior to 21-year-old Taylor Swift, Anderson has certainly lived an unprecedented life in country music. Fans, artists, songwriters and music executives young and old revere him for his soft speaking style that can silence a room with just a few poignant words.
But there was a time in the early 90s that Bill felt as if his words no longer mattered. “I didn’t write much anymore because I didn’t feel as if what I wanted to write related to what young listeners wanted to hear,” he revealed. However, it was in 1992 that singer/songwriter Steve Wariner helped to re-ignite Anderson’s writing career with a cover of “Tips Of My Fingers.” The exposure the song received made Anderson test the waters as a co-writer, and in 1994, he teamed up with Vince Gill to write “Which Bridge To Cross (Which Bridge To Burn).”
Gill said that as a life-long lover of songs, he had no idea what a profound impact Bill would have on him throughout his career, and still to this day, when he hears one of his favorite songs, he finds out that Bill undoubtedly wrote it.
“When I asked him to write some songs with me in the early 90s, I was shocked to hear him say he didn’t write much anymore because he didn’t think my generation was interested in what he had to say,” Gill said.
“I told him I believed he was one of the most prolific and important songwriters in our history, and it would mean the world to me if we could write together. ‘Which Bridge To Cross (Which Bridge To Burn)’ was the result of that collaboration, and in Bill’s words, it lit a fire to want to keep writing with some of us kids. Well, believe me, we kids are better songwriters because of Bill Anderson,” Gill added.
Anderson also celebrated unprecedented success in the new millennium with the Kenny Chesney hit “A Lot Of Things Different,” George Strait’s “Give It Away,” and the multiple CMA/ACM Award winning song, “Whiskey Lullaby,” (2004), recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
Paisley said, “Very few songwriters or artists will be prolific or talented enough to enjoy 2 or maybe 3 decades of success. Bill Anderson is going on 7. His words and melodies are a part of the very foundation upon which country music is built.”
And even icons like Dolly Parton look up to Anderson for his legacy.
“Bill Anderson has been an inspiration to me as a writer since I was young and new in Nashville. It was songs like ‘Still’ and “Once A Day’ that made me want to become a better writer. Bill has written so many wonderful songs and is a major force in country music, not only as a writer, but as an entertainer, singer and host. It would be impossible to really measure his worth in this industry, but it’s BIG! I also love and respect him as a gentle and wonderful human being. Though he speaks softly, he carries a big stick and is a wise and effective businessman. I’ve always admired him for that, too. In the words of one of my own songs, I would like to say Bill Anderson, I will always love you,“ said Dolly Parton.
Whisperin’ Bill Anderson: An Unprecedented Life In Country Music jacketed cloth edition will be available for $29.95 at Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, various independent book stores, and online atBillAnderson.com andAmazon.com.
Anderson shows no signs of slowing down.
