X-Men: Apocalpyse - 3/5 Stars by Johnathan Pushkar

X-Men: Apocalypse was a fun movie, but long-time fans will enjoy it more than newcomers. The film relies a good bit on past knowledge of the stories and characters in the X-Men franchise, and although there is a fair amount of exposition to catch up folks who are new, the "wow factor" of this film is mainly derived from the viewer's connection to these characters from the past several films.

Cinematically, the film is shot wonderfully (especially during the first half of the film.) Several of the film's scenes, especially those set in ancient Egypt, use warm tones and interesting camera angles to make viewer feel the emotion and essence of the scenes portrayed. Ironically, the film doesn't really find its feet until about halfway through, but by this point, the film already started to feel long and drawn-out. The pacing was odd and seemed to have trouble finding its own rhythm, because there would be a serious heart-touching scene with a hard cut to a fast action scene, then filler, then more action. The film wrapped itself up nicely, bid not without faltering a bit with its own pace.

X-Men: Apocalypse did a great job of utilizing its setting in the 1980's, but sometimes, it felt forced. Particularly, in the soundtrack it seems, the film had trouble using its music to convey feeling. The score was beautiful, and really helped build action scenes or passion scenes, but the soundtrack songs chosen felt like cheesy grabs to blatantly say "Hey! We're in the 80's!"

Overall, superhero and action movie fans alike will find this movie as a fun ride, but casual movie-goers may feel differently. I would highly recommend seeing this film for its creative cinematic approach alone, as well as its great action choreography.

Dolly Parton Stars as a Singing Chicken and Rob Brydon Plays a Handsome Silver Fox in New Series of Pre-school Animation Lily’s Driftwood Bay on Nick Jr. in UK, Sprout in US and KiKa in Germany

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 26, 2016) – Global music legend Dolly Parton is lending her distinctive voice to play a singing chicken called Noleen for a special episode in the new series of Sixteen South’s award-winning pre-school animationLily’s Driftwood Bay. Starting on Nick Jr. in the UK on 6th June and Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network, in the US on 27th June, the new series will also feature the smooth Welsh tones of actor and comedian Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacey, The Rob Brydon Show) as a seafaring, and rather handsome, silver fox.

Lily’s Driftwood Bay is about a little girl who creates an imaginary world from treasures she finds washed up on the beach. Lily’s world is filled with a cast of adorable beachside characters, voiced by an array of talent including Stephen Fry (QI, The Hobbit), Peter Mullan (Harry Potter, Top of the Lake), Tameka Empson (EastEnders, 3 Non-Blondes), Jane Horrocks (Sunshine on Leith, Absolutely Fabulous), Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted, London Irish), Annette Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave, Hope Springs) and Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, Fortitude) alongside Orlagh O’Keeke as Lily.

In Dolly Parton’s special double length episode, ‘The Salty Chicken’, which will air next year - Dolly voices Noleen, a famous singing chicken whose luxury yacht gets beached on Driftwood Bay during a storm, much to the surprise of her greatest – and rather star struck fan, Lord Stag (Stephen Fry). An impromptu concert sees old sea dog Salty (Peter Mullan) duet with Noleen, who’s astonished by his talent and tries to persuade him to come on tour with her. Will she persuade Salty to give up the sights and sounds of Driftwood Bay for an international singing career…?

Dolly Parton says: “I’ve never played a chicken before but I have been known to lay a few eggs! Noleen is a very famous chicken, probably one of the most famous chickens ever there was. She washes up on Driftwood Bay and she’s trying to get Salty to go with her on tour. Now whether he does or whether he doesn’t, you’ll just have to watch and see!”

Meanwhile, in ‘The Proposal’,Rob Brydon pops up as handsome silver fox Tom, a dredger captain and former squeeze of Nonna (Annette Crosbie). When Nonna and Tom realise they still have feelings for each other after all these years, Tom throws caution to the wind and proposes. Delighted, Nonna accepts, but when she realises it might mean leaving Driftwood Bay she wonders if she might have been a little hasty…

Rob Brydon says: “Tom is a charming old rover and it’s a lovely show, beautifully made. It’s always great to do jobs that my younger children can watch and enjoy. There’s something magical about good children’s programmes and it’s lovely to be a part of that.”

Show Creator and Producer Colin Williams says: “What a thrill to welcome Rob and Dolly to Driftwood Bay! We’ve three generations of Lily fans – children, parents and grandparents and I was looking for two very special people who are loved by all three generations to be our special guest. Who else to play a handsome and smooth Welsh fox than Rob Brydon! ‘The Salty Chicken’ was the first story outline that we wrote for series two and it was always Dolly that I wanted. It took me a year to convince her but what an honour to meet her, work with her and have her part of our special show. She’s an amazing and lovely lady - and a Lily fan too!”

A beautifully crafted series about making fun and adventure from things that you find, Lily’s Driftwood Bay is produced by Sixteen South (Claude, Pajanimals, Big and Small) featuring characters and environments completely created from objects found washed up on the beach. The series is supported by some production funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

Mark Chesnutt Set To Release Tradition Lives On July 8

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 18, 2016) – Fans of country music hit-maker Mark Chesnutt will want to circle the date of July 8 on their calendar as the traditional-minded singer will release his fifteenth studio album that day, aptly titledTradition Lives.

Tradition Lives, his first disc of all-new material since 2010, was produced by Jimmy Ritchey -- someone that Chesnutt says is a crucial part of his sound, having worked with him for years. “He and I hooked up at a time when not a lot of people had a lot of faith in me anymore because I stayed 'country' when the industry was going the other way. I needed somebody like Jimmy who really believed in my kind of country music,” said Chesnutt.

Tradition Lives includes 12 new Chesnutt tracks, each with the pure honky-tonk sounds that have helped to make him one of the most revered and respected artists in the business. The album also includes a tribute to the late Merle Haggard and famed songwriter, Red Lane, “There Won’t Be Another Now.”

“A few years back, Jimmy Ritchey and I were at his home studio at about 2 a.m. talking about The Hag and his influence on us, and we thought it would be nice to add this song to the album as a tribute to him and to Red Lane. It's just me with Jimmy on guitar. I hope fans enjoy it," said Chesnutt.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, Mark Chesnutt began his run up the charts in 1990 with “Too Cold At Home,” and followed that initial hit up with blockbuster 90s favorites such as “Brother Jukebox,” “Let It Rain,” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” Along the way, he has earned one Gold album and four Platinum albums. He has been nominated for several industry awards, and has a CMA trophy to his credit – the 1993 Vocal Event of the Year prize for “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair,” a hit for The Possum, George Jones.

Chesnutt continues to be a touring favorite, with close to 175 dates on his calendar – which is booked well into the latter part of 2016.

1.  I've Got A Quarter In My Pocket
2.  Is It Still Cheating
3.  Lonely Ain’t The Only Game In Town
4.  Oughta Miss Me By Now
5.  Neither Did I
6.  So You Can’t Hurt Me Anymore
7.  You Moved Up In Your World

CLEVELAND, Ohio (May 12, 2016) – This July, the eyes of the world will be set upon Cleveland, Ohio – with the Republican National Convention taking place there. Those who will experience history being made that week will get to experience the magic of the city with a historic night of fun and entertainment titled Cleveland Rocks 2016! The extravaganza is produced by Blue Star Productions, LLC in conjunction with the Green Beret Foundation, The Folded Flag Foundation, The Guardians of Heroes Foundation, OH Fallen Heroes, and ST9, with those charities receiving proceeds from the event.

On Thursday, July 21, the week will come to an end for those in attendance, but it ends with a bang! For the evening’s festivities, called “Wheels Up,” Kid Rock - one of the most electrifying musicians in the world - will show off his musical virtuosity performing with his incredible Twisted Brown Trucker Band. The singer, a native of Detroit, has sold a staggering twenty six million albums since breaking onto the scene in the 1990s. Other hit albums in the Kid Rock catalog include Cocky (2001), Rock and Roll Jesus (2007), and Born Free (2010). A longtime supporter of veterans from all branches of the military, the musical icon says he’s glad to be able to participate in an event that gives back to a group that has given so much to Americans.

Robert Jennings, Executive Producer of Cleveland Rocks 2016, says that he’s excited about the event, which he thinks fans should support – regardless of party affiliation. “I think veterans’ issues are something all Americans should rally around which is why we're working with major artists to carry that message to Cleveland and Philadelphia. Our activities support nationally recognized, small non-profits that work on the ground with active duty service members and their families and the veterans of America's military. We thank artists like Kid Rock who are willing to stand up for vets no matter which way the wind blows, and we're looking forward to spending time with the leaders and grassroots of both parties in Cleveland and Philadelphia.”

The concert will feature gourmet catering, plus an open bar in addition to various VIP enhancements. There will also be daily special event space available to suit along with catered hospitality suite and a premium cigar bar. HOLIDAY SEQUEL 'DOLLY PARTON'S CHRISTMAS OF MANY COLORS: CIRCLE OF LOVE' SET FOR 2016 RETURN Heartwarming Story of Country Legend Singer's Young Life Continues With Original Cast

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (May 11, 2016) – Coming off the phenomenal performance of last year’s holiday special and looking to recapture the enthusiasm of the nearly 16 million viewers who tuned in, NBC is announcing the sequel “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.”

“Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” is the next chapter in the life of young Dolly Parton. The film delivers Christmas joy and peril as an unexpected blizzard threatens the Parton family, while at the same time Dolly’s father (and his kids) make sacrifices to raise enough money to finally buy his loving wife the wedding ring he could never afford to give her. Meanwhile, an important person in little Dolly’s life begins to see that her amazing voice and musical gift might just be made for something bigger than rural Tennessee.

The original cast will return for the sequel: Jennifer Nettles as Avie Lee Parton, Ricky Schroder as Robert Lee Parton, Gerald McRaney as Rev. Jake Owens and Alyvia Alyn Lind as young Dolly Parton. Other members of the cast, as well as a premiere date, will be announced in the coming months.

Stephen Herek, who directed the original film, is also back to direct the sequel.

“It’s no secret that everyone loves Dolly Parton and the response to our first movie was overwhelming, both in terms of the size of the audience and outpouring of love for a film with family values and faith,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. “So it felt like a no-brainer to bring this talented cast back together and tell another compelling holiday story culled from Dolly’s own life growing up in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Her spirit and belief in God — and her music — will infuse this movie with the true spirit of Dolly Parton.”

“I was so overwhelmed and touched by how many people watched ‘Coat of Many Colors’ and their reaction to it,” Parton said. “The song ‘Coat of Many Colors,’ of course, has always been my favorite and has touched so many people through the years, especially me. It is a true story from a very special time in my childhood. I am so happy to share this story with the viewers and to say there is so much more to tell because mine truly has been a life of many colors. I hope the viewers will fall in love all over again.”

In L+7 results from Nielsen Media Research, the Dec. 10 telecast of “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” generated a 2.45 rating in adults 18-49 and 15.9 million viewers overall, making it the most-watched film on broadcast or cable in nearly seven years. The film’s increases from live plus same day to L+7 Nielsens are the largest L+7 time-shifted increase ever for a primetime movie on the broadcast networks.

“Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” is written by Pamela K. Long. She executive produces with Sam Haskell and Dolly Parton. The film is a production of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Dixie Pixie Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Nashville, Tenn. (May 9, 2016) - Legendary country group Restless Heart recently released their latest single, "Wichita Lineman," a tribute to the iconic Glen Campbell.  Today, the band once again salutes Campbell with the debut of the song's official music video. Taste of Country premiered the new video this morning.
The song, written by Jimmy Webb and co-produced by Harry Smith and Restless Heart's Dave Innis, is the band's first new music release in nearly three years.
"This is one of our finest collaborations as a band," Innis tells Rolling Stone Country.  "Each one of us put our own personal touch on this track, vocally and musically.  Since all of the Restless Heart guys are such big admirers of Glen, it's nice that we finally took his suggestion 30 years later and cut a Jimmy Webb song!"
Three decades ago at a show in St. Louis on a Mississippi riverboat, it was Campbell who originally planted the seed for Restless Heart to record a Jimmy Webb-penned tune.
"We had some time to relax on the boat before our performances," recalls Innis.  "Glen was telling stories and at one point he said, 'You guys should cut a Jimmy Webb song.'"
"We were blessed to work with Glen on a number of show dates throughout the years," says Restless Heart's Larry Stewart.  "It is an honor to know one of the finest talents of our time.  In honor of Glen, Restless Heart could record no greater song than 'Wichita Lineman.'"
Restless Heart's version of "Wichita Lineman" is available for download at iTunes, Google Play and CD Baby.  Listen now by clicking HERE.
The "Wichita Lineman" music video was directed by Mark Mayr and executive produced by Denise Strotherat Breezewood Productions.
About Restless Heart

HELPING A HERO TO BREAK GROUND ON SECOND PENNSYLVANIA HOME FOR WOUNDED VETERANS Groundbreaking Ceremony for EM1 (NUC) Jeffrey Campbell, USN, Slated For Wednesday, May 11 in Duncansville, PA Legendary Country Music Group The Oak Ridge Boys To Perform National Anthem at Ceremony

DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. (May 5, 2016) – Better Business Bureau accredited and Houston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Helping A Hero, will break ground on its second specially adapted home in the state of Pennsylvania, this time for local community member, EM1 (NUC) Jeffrey Campbell, USN, on Wednesday, May 11 in Duncansville, Pennsylvania. To honor Campbell's selfless military service, Country Music Hall of Fame members, The Oak Ridge Boys, will sing the National Anthem at the groundbreaking ceremony. Community members are encouraged to attend to show their support.
Campbell suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS) as a result of prolonged exposure to unknown substances in his time in the Navy serving as a nuclear electrician on the USS George Washington during the attack on the USS Cole, and while stationed in the New York harbor shortly after September 11, 2001. Due to the MS, Campbell has lost the use of his legs and arms and is confined to a wheelchair.
The new home will meet Campbell's unique needs, including special features such as wider doorways and hallways, an accessible bathroom and kitchen, flush thresholds, and other safety features.
Helping A Hero Central PA made a generous donation to Helping A Hero to help fund the construction of this home. Helping A Hero completed its first home for a local wounded veteran in Pennsylvania in 2013, located in Harrisburg, for Retired Sergeant Dennis Leonard who lost his legs in Baquba, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near a vehicle he was driving.
Founded in 2006, Helping A Hero provides support for military personnel severely injured in the War On Terror by providing specially adapted homes for qualifying service members through partnerships made with the builders, developers, communities, and the veteran of honor. Helping A Hero strives to engage the community in providing services and resources for our wounded heroes and their families. Additionally, the non-profit organization provides additional support programs such as marriage retreats, caregiver retreats, recreational activities, emotional support, and financial support. The Helping A Hero Home Program has awarded 100 severely wounded heroes in 22 states a specially adapted home that addresses their physical needs.
In 2016, Helping A Hero was accredited by the Better Business Bureau and applauded for meeting the Bureau’s ‘Standards For Financial Accountability,’ going above and beyond the requirements of law to be a transparent and accountable. Helping A Hero will also sponsor the 2016 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. honoring our nation’s veterans and fallen heroes.
Campbell grew up in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania where he played football, ran track, played in the orchestra, was active in his church, and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Slippery Rock University where he was an athletic trainer and vice president of the Rock Emergency Medical Services. Jeff and his wife Aimee have four children: Benjamin (16), Hannah (10), Noah (8), and Jonah (7). They are also expecting again in December. Two of their children have special needs, which adds to the family’s challenges.
The groundbreaking ceremony for EM1(NUC) Jeffrey Campbell, USN, is open to the public and all community members are invited to attend.
“It’s always an honor for The Oak Ridge Boys to be a part of anything honoring our veterans. We are very happy this opportunity came up and look forward to it and meeting EM1 (NUC) Campbell and his family,” said Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys, who will be present at the ceremony.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 5, 2016)– Beloved Country music pioneer Charley Pride sits down with Dan Rather for THE BIG INTERVIEWon Saturday, May 7, at 10aE. During the candid hour-long conversation, the Grammy-winning singer opens up about his early life as one of 11 children, picking cotton in the fields of the Mississippi Delta, as well as his introduction to music, the songs that inspired him, and his first guitar.

Growing up in the Mississippi Delta, Pride had a childhood that was much different from those of his modern contemporaries. Pride describes his early life saying, “I learned that you had to share a lot, and [that] you bang one another upside the head a lot, and try to get a biscuit before the other one. We lived in what we called a ‘shotgun house’, and there was a bed over on this side and a bed over on this side, and we’d sleep three and four to a bed. I remember sometimes I’d wake up and my brother’s toes were right in my nose. We grew up on a farm, and we all had something to do. In the evenings, either me or my brother would go get real dry chips [so] my mother could start the fire in the morning prior to us going and chopping the cotton… I walked four miles to school and four miles back. That’s where I grew up."

On the first music that he heard as a child, Pride says, “My mom and dad liked Gospel music, so they used to listen to the Five Blind Boys from both Alabama and Mississippi.” But, Pride reveals that one of the songs from his childhood that still sticks out to him is the classic Hank Williams hymn “I’ll Have A New Body (I’ll Have A New Life).” He was also exposed to music from Bill Monroe, his father's favorite bluegrass singer. It's one of the sentimental reasons that Pride included Monroe's song "Mansions For Me" on Pride & Joy: A Gospel Music Collection, his 2006 studio album.

Primarily known as a singer, Pride says his introduction to the guitar was anything but smooth. Reminiscing about his first guitar, Pride says, “My mother ordered me a guitar for 14 bucks from Sears Roebuck… we got it over in the evening… and I left it in the wagon and it rained. It was just glued together, you know. It was called Silvertone. I kept trying to tune it, and it just kept bowing and bowing with strings [and] the glue around it. And my mother was walking up on the porch, it was probably about 105 degrees, and she heard something go *BOOOIIIIIINNNNG*. And she said, ‘Boy, you better go up there and look at your box! The rats are running over it.’"

To see more of this in-depth episode, be sure to tune in to THE BIG INTERVIEW on Saturday, May 7 at 10aE, only on AXS TV.
