Dorothy Marie "Dottie" West (October 11, 1932 – September 4, 1991) was an American country music singer and songwriter. Along with her friends and fellow recording artists Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, she is considered one of the genre's most influential and groundbreaking female artists. Dottie West's career started in the 1960s, with her Top 10 hit, "Here Comes My Baby Back Again", which won her the first Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1965. In the 1960s, West was one of the few female country singers working in what was then a male-dominated industry, influencing other female country singers like Lynn Anderson, Crystal Gayle, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette. Throughout the 1960s, West had Top 10 and Top 20 hits on the country music charts.

In the early 1970s, West wrote a popular commercial for the Coca-Cola company, titled "Country Sunshine", which reached No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles in 1973. In the late-70s, she teamed up with country pop superstar, Kenny Rogers for a series of duets which took her career to new highs, earning Platinum selling albums and No. 1 records for the very first time. Her duet recordings with Rogers, "Every Time Two Fools Collide", "All I Ever Need Is You", and "What Are We Doin' In Love", became country music standards. In the mid-1970s, her image and music underwent a metamorphosis, bringing her to the very peak of her popularity as a solo act, and reaching No. 1 for the very first time on her own in 1980 with "A Lesson in Leavin'".

Could an endorsement from Brad Paisley be in the works, for Presidential candidate Donald Trump?? It would be cool if Brad wrote one his tongue and cheek, comedy songs for Trump.

Did some looking and found this photo of Ty with the Queen of Gospel and Queen of Country. I remember hearing him say "I can die now I got to be between my two heroes!".

Ty is alright with us!

In life, you meet people that come and go. And on that rare occasion you make a friend, that leaves a deep impression on your heart. How fitting that my friend Richard Tomlin left such an impression as he's an incredible artist. Over the years, I have been gifted original, one of a kind art pieces painted by Richard for birthdays and other occasions. Friends, like myself, encouraged Richard to create a line of products featuring his artwork; finally he has.

Tomlin's first launch of watercolors feature "The Redman's", a family of birds living everyday life, and "Daily Chores" inspired by Richard and his sister Lily Tomlin's life growing up in 1950's Detroit, MI.

Early life in Detroit was a financial hardship for the working-class family, but a creative period for Richard and Lily Tomlin. It was during this time the siblings would perform shows for the neighbors, their father Guy Tomlin's friends at the local watering hole, or their beloved mother Lillie Mae.
Lillie Mae was a kind, lenient parent who understood her children were artistic, creative beings and, most of all, unconventional. Many times, her support for Richard's creativity would be tested, such as the time he sawed the living room seating because he wanted sectional furniture. Most parents of that timeframe may have lost their patience and took it out on their children's bottoms; however Lillie Mae, made the newly created sectional pieces work.

Mother, Lillie Mae, encouraged her children's artistic gifts until her death in 2005, at the age of 91. In her lifetime, she was able to see her children's gifts come to fruition. Her daughter, Lily, shot to fame with the TV series Laugh In. Then came movies, Broadway and countless accolades. Richard, became an actor, dancer, writer, artist, nightclub singer, business owner and interior decorator. One of Tomlin's most successful business ventures was Chez Tomlin.

After years in the entertainment industry, both in New York and Los Angeles, as an actor and member of his sister's entourage, Richard, moved to Paducah, KY to be near his mother. There, Richard, was reintroduced to family friend, Tennessee Michael Langston. Together Richard and Tennessee bought a beautiful, 150 year old building in downtown historic Paducah. The pair renovated the four story building, turning it into an upscale gift ship and Danish antique store and Chez Tomlin was born.

Chez Tomlin boasted a vast array of items from the grand scale of $10,000 to handkerchiefs for $2. The building also housed a restaurant and a Lily Tomlin Museum. The second floor however was Richard's sacred ground; this would be his art studio, where he painted many watercolor jewels and gave new life to lamps, furniture, ornaments and anything he saw that inspired him.

Years later, Richard along with Tennessee moved to Nashville, TN, where he worked as an actor in commercials and Country Music videos. It was in Nashville, Tomlin, was inspired by the music scene, his "Baby Grand Piano" creations lined the walls of some of the greatest recording studios in Nashville.

I sometimes think God brought Richard to Nashville just for me! Tennessee Michael, Richard, Lillie Mae, and Lily all became dear friends of mine and the legendary singer I managed, Dottie Rambo, The Queen of Gospel Music, who was like my mother. We were an eclectic, adopted family to each other, enjoying trips, dinner parties, and concerts. Dottie would share her stage for a song or two with Richard, and our gang, in return, he would help decorate for the Gospel Music Icon.

In 2008, while on tour, Dottie's tour bus crashed, killing her and leaving me extremely injured. It was during this time that Richard, Tennessee Michael and Lily poured their love into my life. We all mourned the loss of our beloved Dottie, the spiritual matriarch of our circle of friends. Cheering me up were beautiful paintings from Richard, either for me or my young sons.

Richard Tomlin's "whimsical water color on timeless products" includes; hats, shirts, jackets, flip flops, prints and countless other items. You can purchase Richard Tomlin's art at the following web address:

At the time of posting it was announced that Richard, has a children's book in the works!
